Similes and Metaphors

The opening song, Love is Like an Itching in my Heart by the Supremes leads us into this week’s theme of SIMILES and METAPHORS. Both these figures of speech are well used in popular music and we introduce you to a few.

Similies compare two different things and commonly use the word “like” as the link, as highlighted in Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone, the Four Seasons’  Walk Like a Man and the Steve Miller Band’s Fly Like an EagleMetaphors on the other hand make the comparison by stating that something is something else. Examples of metaphors are evident in the Monkees’ Cuddly Toy, Colleen Hewitt’s Wind Beneath My Wings and Lesley Gores’ Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.
