Yesterday Once More

30 Oct 2023

Shake and Roll

50s, 60s, 70s, Nostalgia, Songs

Two words synonymous with the fifties and sixties, Shake And Roll were prominent words to get your feet tapping and your body moving. Epitomised in Bill Haley’s Shake Rattle And Roll turned up to a fever pitch in Jerry Lee Lewis’s Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, the energy in these songs was high. Peter Paul and Mary show their comical side in their parody I Dig Rock N Roll Music. Two Aussies who were prominent were Normie Rowe (Shakin’ All Over’) and Kevin Johnson with his autobiographical classic Rock N Roll (I Gave You All The Best years Of My Life). The Beatles proved they could rock it with the best with their cover of Chuck Berry’s Roll Over Beethoven.
