In this week’s program we have selected songs which were prominent during a Summer Olympic year. The earliest year in our program was 1956 when Melbourne staged the first Olympic Games outside of Europe and North America. In that year Elvis Presley shocked and thrilled the world with Heartbreak Hotel. In 1968 the Olympics were held in Mexico and little known country singer Jeannie C Riley scored the biggest song of the year with Harper Valley PTA while the Beatle’s bandwagon continued with Revolution. Aussie artists to figure were Blackfeather (1972) with Boppin’ The Blues, Max Merritt & The Meteors (1976) with Slipping Away and Olivia Newton- John (1980) and Magic.
