Yesterday Once More

24 Mar 2024

Hulu Highlights

50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, Nostalgia, Songs, Songwriters

In this, our first program for 2024, Rob pays tribute to that wonderful performer, Melanie who passed away last week. Today’s program is different in that Rob recalls his days of owning a bar in Bali called Hulu Cafe. He plays some of the songs the drag queens performed in that bar. Starting with Noel Coward’s saucy Mad About The Boy sung by the great Dinah Washington. Wilkommen was always the opening intro to the shows. Other highlights included drag queen Brenda’s performance of Sarah Brightman’s Harem and Corazon’s knockout performance of the classic I Am What I Am by Gloria Gaynor. The darling of the bar was Angela who performed classic Indian and Spanish dances. Here she performs the cheeky In These Shoes from Kirsty Maccoll. Fittingly, one of the finale songs and the finale of this program was the stirring Tina Turner hit The Best.
