1969

This week’s theme celebrates songs that charted 50 years ago in 1969.  Along with great songs that year was notable for some ground breaking events. Possibly the most remembered is that of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. Other feats included the beginnings of the internet, the first human eye transplant, the first ATM to operate and the first Jumbo 747 to take off.

Other events taking place were the Stonewall riots in New York, where  members of the gay (LGBTI) community clashed with police, the Woodstock music festival, the Manson murders and musically David Bowie released ‘A Space Oddity’ and The Who presented their production of ‘Tommy’ and the Beatles’ ‘Something’ was the top song in Australia.
