Gender And Bender

Music

Hi Listeners,

We were all inspired by the bearded lady from Austria, Conchita Wurst, weren’t we? So much so that this week we are going to feature songs and artists that could be said to bend the Gender. Plus, we are also presenting some mundane man/woman songs. From songs about drag queens such as the Kinks’ ‘Lola’ and the iconic ‘Walk On the Wild Side’ from Lou Reed, to songs by gay artists such as Johnny Mathis (A Time For Us).

Performers who bent the gender included David Bowie and Patti Smith (Because The Night). There is also a throwback to former days with comedienne Ruth Wallis’s “Queer Things Are Happening’. And although they fall outside our chronological time line we are sneaking in a song from that great gay duo ‘The Communards’. Their song ‘There’s More To Love (Than Boy Meets Girl) really sums it up.

So hope you enjoy
