Today’s program features songs from movies and musicals. Getting off to a bright start is Oliver’s popular Goodmorning Starshine from the sixties’ rock opera ‘Hair’. More sombre selections include Shirley Bassey’s dramatic rendition of As Long As He Needs Me from ‘Oliver‘, Julie Covington’s rendition of Eva Peron’s cynical monologue Don’t Cry For Me Argentina from ‘Evita’ and the warm tones of Rosemary Clooney singing her top selling song Hey There from the fifties’ film and stage show ‘The Pyjama Game’. Three Aussies featured are : Olivia Newton – John in strong voice performs the ballad from ‘Grease’Hopelessly Devoted To You; Helen Reddy ‘also in fine voice, sings her No 1 seller I Don’t Know How To Love Him from Lloyd Weber’s superb ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. Finally, John Farnham tries his hand at musical comedy with Charlie Girl from the musical of the same name.
