Constructions
Hi Listeners,
How many man-made structures can you think of? We started a list of pop songs with ‘constructions’ of some kind in the title. We got more than enough to put together this week’s program. There are arcades, stairways, bridges, pubs, houses, chapels, mansions, shacks and towers in the program. Favourites like Roy Orbison is represented with ‘Penny Arcade’ and Simon And Garfunkels’ iconic ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. The Sweet’s rendition of the rock classic ‘Ballroom Blitz’ is there and the quintessential Aussie song ‘Pub With No Beer’ sung by Slim Dusty.
There are also houses (Shakin’ Stevens ‘This Ole House’) and chapels (Dixie Cups’ ‘Chapel Of Love’ and shacks (Jimmy Gilmer ‘Sugar Shack’). Two songs which use a construction as a metaphor are the Gene McDaniels favourite ‘Chip Chip chipping at our mansion of love’ and way back in the fifties, Cathy Carr’s poignant ‘Ivory Tower’.
Again there is a variety of songs and singers here – enough for you to sing along and enjoy.
