Inspired by her Catholic upbringing, Madonna’s opening track Like A Prayer features a blend of gospel, pop and rock.

Helen Reddy presents a beautiful interpretation of I Don’t know How to Love Him from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar and George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord was written in praise of the Hindu God Krishna.

The Doobie Brothers, Peter Paul and Mary, and Edwin Hawkins Singers make reference to Jesus while others include the word Lord.

The last of the songs Shadrock refers to a biblical story sung by Brook Benton.
