Precious Stones And Metals

Music

Hi Listeners,

Happy New Year! We are back together again ready to present you with another batch of interesting themes and great songs from the fifties, sixties and seventies. We will start off the year with BLING! (Well some bling) as we present songs with precious stones and metals in their titles.

The ultimate precious stone (Diamonds) is there with the ex-Shadows duo Tony Meehan and Jet Harris with ‘Diamonds’ and the vocal group The Diamonds with one of their hits ‘Believe Me’. The ultimate precious metal (Gold) is also there with Spandau Ballet’s popular song ‘Gold’ and Don Cherry’s old hit from the fifties ‘Band Of Gold’.

‘Silver’ is a popular metal in song titles and in our program we have ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining’ by Jeff Beck and our ever popular sweetheart, Dusty Springfield, with her group The Springfields and their big hit ‘Silver Threads And Golden Needles’.

There are also a couple of ‘Ruby’ songs too – the Rolling Stones classic ‘Ruby Tuesday’ and Dion’s ‘Ruby Baby’. Other metals include Tin (‘Tin Man’ by America) and Steel (‘A Steel Guitar And A Glass Of Wine’ by Paul Anka).

It is fitting that Australia is represented by Coal (‘Coal Man’ by Ronnie Burns and The Seekers song from the film ‘Wizard Of Oz’, ‘Emerald City’.

So sit back and enjoy the music!
