Yesterday Once More

25 Mar 2015

Most Weeks

Music

Hi Listeners,

This week on ‘Yesterday Once More’ is statistics week. This is the week where we present a bewildering array of statistics under the heading of ‘Most Weeks’. For example did you know that, in the UK, the artists with the most number of weeks in the charts in the fifties were Elvis Presley (248 weeks), Frankie Laine (238 weeks) and Pat Boone (237 weeks). In the sixties things had changed: The instrumental group, The Shadows, topped the number of weeks (631 weeks), followed by Cliff Richard (537 weeks) and Elvis (444 weeks).

No Beatles?

In the seventies Elvis jumped back on top with 331 weeks, followed by Elton John (223) and Diana Ross (220 weeks). A similar survey in the USA would have shown different statistics as would a survey in Australia. In our own country two of the songs which spent the longest time at No 1 were ‘Que Sera Sera’ by Normie Rowe (11 weeks on top) and Shaddap Your Face by Joe Dolce (also 11 weeks on top).

Our selection of songs is taken from the multitude of statistics around the notion of ‘Most Weeks’. We hope you enjoy!
