Accents

When English speaking singers sing, most of them sing in a neutral accent. However, sometimes accents are deliberately used for novelty or to give a song more authenticity. Three novelty songs with different accents are: ‘My Old Man’s A Dustman’ (Cockney – Lonnie Donegan), ‘Donald Where’s Your Troosers? (Scottish – Andy Stewart) and another cockney accent – ‘ Come Outside’ with Mike Sarne and Wendy Richards. Other accents featured are Portugese, Italian and French. Two Aussie songs are John Williamson’s poignant ‘True Blue’ and the Aussie highlightSlim Dusty’s classic ‘Pub With No Beer’.
