New music to weekdays (3 December, 2014)

Axwell /\ Ingrosso – Something New (EMI)
Fifth Harmony – Sledgehammer (SME)
John Legend – You & I (R3Hab Mix) (SME)
5 Seconds of Summer – What I Like About You (EMI) [AU]
Masketta Fall – Summertime Girls (UMA) [AU]
Marcus Santoro & The Potbelleez – All the Way (SME) [AU]
Reigan – All of the Pieces (SME) [AU]

Swedish House Mafia announced their retirement in March 2012, ahead of a worldwide tour that took up much of the following year. Two-thirds of the Mafia are back with a debut single, Something New (and an album due in early 2015), which kicks off our new-music additions this week.

The 2012 series of the US X Factor launched a five-piece girl group, Fifth Harmony (they placed third), Their latest single, Sledgehammer, is pure pop.

American nine-time Grammy Award winner John Legend launches a new single remix by R3Hab of ‘You & I’, which will also feature on the Special Edition repackage of his current album.

The first of two Aussie pop-rock additions this week is a cover of The Romantics’ 1980 hit ‘What I Like About You’ by 5 Seconds of Summer, as part of their LIVESOS album release. We added ‘Let There Be Light’ from Melbourne four-piece independent group Masketta Fall in March. The band have now signed with Universal Music and their major-label debut, ‘Summertime Girls’, is an excellent start for them.

Young up-and-coming Melbourne-based DJ-producer Marcus Santoro has teamed up with stalwarts of the Aussie music scene The Potbelleez. All the Way retains all that we love about The Potbelleez but adds just a hint of something new.

We last featured Reigan Derry on JOY back in 2010 as part of the duo Scarlett Belle with Tamara Jaber. After finishing third on The X Factor this year, she’s re-signed with Sony Music as a solo artist, and her debut single, ‘All of the Pieces’, is an emotive mid-tempo ballad that is very reminiscent of Paloma Faith and Ella Henderson. We think Reigan could have a hit on her hands.

Set your alarm and tune into Rochén and Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
