Mental health week around Australia is upon us. Beyond Blue?
We all have mental health issues that touch our lives from time to time, some are fleeting, some are chronic. Frequently mental health issues are more about developing coping mechanisms and finding the cause.

Depression and low self-esteem seem to be the mental health issues that are most prevalent in the gay and lesbian community.

Most of us go through some sort of depression at some stage in life, usually as result of situations or trauma, or maybe chemical imbalance in the body. We get over it, but some people donâ€™t get over it.

There are other disorders that effects the community, like schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder, but depression seems to be the most prevalent and gay and lesbian people and in particular youth are very susceptible to it.

Today we are going to talk to Rob Mitchell a well known campaigner on these issues and to Sam a young woman who has experienced depression.
