WHAT HAVE WE SEEN LATELY ?

FILM : WORLD WAR Z : I had my doubts about this film and unfortunately they were true. From a book of 420 pages they managed to reduce the plot to about 25 words. If you like high action films with lots of chases and little dialogue and character development, this is your film. The action scenes are very well made, but the plot is very thin, the zombies are boring, and who really cares what happens to Brad Pitt and his family? Not in my Top 10 films of 2013.

SPANISH FILM FESTIVAL : THE END : Fun film about a group of friends who reunite after 20 years at a cabin in the hills. After some strange meteorological events they begin to disappear one by one. Very spooky, and I won’t tell you the ending, except to say that it isn’t the slash and slaughter movie you may be expecting. This is a deeper, more philosophical story.

A Also screening at the SPANISH FILM FESTIVAL and worth considering THE BODY , and THE SUMMER SIDE (with a couple of interesting gay characters).

B At the RUSSIAN RESURECTION FILM FESTIVAL my highlight was THE METRO, Russia’s first big budget disaster movie. Lotsa fun when THE METRO gets flooded, people in the water with live wires get electrocuted, and the trains fly of the track.
