Show 463 / 22nd Feb 2014

Unknown-1

Welcome to another Touch Of Pink, 2 hours chock of all that is a little bit girlie and a little bit gay,  dancepop, indietronica, call it what you like, it’s the best of the best (in my opinion) from all over the world.

Lots of interesting stuff tonight, including the wonderful retro anthem from Annie, a few interesting covers (Liam Keegam, David Guetta & Jason Walker), plus some great new releases from Paloma Faith, Twenty One Pilots, Klaxons, Kelis, Katy B, Prince, Deborah Cox, Lisa Stansfield, and a look back at Mel and Kim.

Honourable mention this week goes to Annie ft Bjarne Melgaard with a very gay song + video called Russian Kiss. The song is partly a homage to Lil Louis’ song French Kiss, and also a call to arms against the Russian government’s intolerance to all of us in the GLBTI community. Shake a fist for the Russian Kiss !!!

Single Of The Week is “House Of Gold” from Twenty One Pilots, a duo from the USA. The song is very catchy, the boys are cute and for zombie fans the video is a lot of fun.

Here follows tonight’s playlist. Tune in to us this Saturday on JOY 94.9 from  7pm for 26 tracks in 2 hours (yes, we know!). Your hosts are Dick and his friands (he loves those little almond meal treats).

What Have We Seen ThIs Week ?

Film : Blue Is The Warmest Colour : Yes, the lesbian film, and yes, at 3 hours it was about an hour too long, but it was a very good film, and worth seeing. It followed the first big lesbian affair for a high school girl and the older woman she falls for. The detail it went into was very in your face, and you felt like you were right there with them, and not always in a good way. But it was well handled and definitely worth seeing, but you might need to take a packed lunch.

Film : Robocop : We went to see this ‘cos one of the papers gave it a very good review, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. The set up was interestingly handled, lots of emotional family scenes as they are reunited after the lead character is transformed into Robocop, and the action scenes were very exciting. Good fun.

Film : Dallas Buyers Club : Set in 1985, the beginning of the AIDS crisis, and a straight rodeo worker is given an HIV diagnosis and a month to live. After he ges over his anger and disbelief, he starts to source  anti-Aids drugs not available for purchase. This escalates until he starts a club to import treatments from overseas. The film covers his fights against the law and his homophobia. A very worthy film and a great performance from Matthew McConaughy.

Play : Cock : A simple enough plot, a young guy in a gay relationship has an affair with a woman and all hell breaks loose. It starts of quite fun in a bitchy relationship way, and ends up quite dark when the affair is exposed and decisions have to be made.

Dick’s Top 5 Videos For The Week

Thief – Closer (a cute new Aussie artist)

Rick Astley – Sleeping (from 2001, Rick goes sleep dancing)

Paloma Faith – Can’t rely on you ( one word, AMAZING!)

Katy B – Crying for no reason (heartbreaking)

Crystal Method ft Dia Frampton – Over it (a very dysfunctional cooking competition)
