Show 550 / 4 June 2016
Wow! My 550th show and still here … with another great selection of trash pop with a gay slant, actually 6 gay acts tonight, including Damien Mancell (see below) and Rod Thomas (aka BLx2 see above).
There’s a few old acts with new albums that are worth considering. The three Degrees have a great new album called Strategy: Our Tribute To Philadelphia, a collection of oldies such as Disco Inferno, Don’t Leave Me This Way and Love Train. ABC have a follow up to 1982’s Lexicon Of Love, and it’s another collection of lush orchestrated ballads with an 80’s sound. Thomas Anders (lead singer from Modern Talking) has a new album featuring a couple of new tracks plus 13 re-recorded versions of Modern Talking’s hits. Cyndi Lauper’s new country album is wonderful, my favourite track being You’re the reason our kids are ugly. There is a Volume 2 of BBC Radio 2’s Sounds Of The 80’s, recorded by artists such as Foxes, Will Young, All Saints and Mika. And don’t forget about Rufus Wainwright’s Take All My Loves, a new album based on Shakespeare Sonnets. Other current favourites include Tight Fit’s Together, a new collection of remixed hits, Billie Ray Martin’s The Soul Tapes, a collection of soul covers, and Mari Wilson’s Pop Deluxe, a collection of hits from 60’s ladies such as Dusty, Cilla and Petula.
My Song Of The Week is “House On A Rock” from Ngaire (see above). An amazing singer from Sydney with the 5th track from her new album Blastoma, due out on 10th June. There is no video for this song yet, but check out the video for the 2nd single Diggin below.
Here follows tonight’s playlist. Tune in this Saturday on JOY 94.9 from 6-7pm for a bakers dozen of fab-u-lous tracks. Your host is Dick.

What have we seen around town this week ?
Film : The Nice Guys : Starring Russell Crowe and (the dreamy – see below) Ryan Gosling as two hopeless private detectives following the same person. It plays out like a cross between L.A. Confidential and Pulp Fiction, with an hysterically funny script. We laughed out loud on a number of occasions, always a good sign. Excellent.
Dick’s Top 5 Videos
Three Degrees : Strategy (3 very funky senior citizens)
Thomas Anders : Lunatic (obviously having a very nice retirment)
Jussie Smollett (gay) : Shine on me (from TV series Empire)
Amanda Lear : Follow me (80’s disco, and pretty good for 69)

RuPaul : You wear it well (Drag Race RuPaul runway outfits series 1-7)
That’s your lot ….. now sashay away …
