On today’s show we talk about the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, the renaming of Van Diemen’s Land to Tasmania and a weird tax in England which taxed windows.

We talk about 1 January as New Year’s Day and compare the way we calculate it with the ways the Chinese, Jewish and Islamic cultures define their new years day. The first of January was also the day Australia was proclaimed a Commonwealth.

We get touchy-feely with braille dots and Joe Dallesandro as the first male gay porn object of the modern era.
