Pride March, Dana Int, D.Dunstan, Bronski, B.Downe, Royals, FBook

Uncategorized

This week we talk about the successful Pride March along Fitzroy Street on a sunny Sunday – 29 Jan 2017, and the confident presence of more trans folk, as well as politicians and plenty of service organisations supporting their gay members.

In the birthday stakes around this time, we remember the role of transgender Israeli singer Dana International and the contributions from South Australian Premier Don Dunstan, who led a revolution in SA with the reformed GLBT rights laws, and we chat about Steve Bronski and his band Bronski Beat who in the UK in the 1980s created waves of gay liberation of their own with their music.

A local lad having a birthday is flamboyant comedian and entertainer Bob Downe (aka Mark Trevorrow)–the ‘prince of polyester’. He has long been popular in both Australia and the UK.

This time of the year has many anniversaries in the UK royal lineage and Australia’s steps towards Federation and our faltering moves towards becoming a republic without the Royals.

In modern events we remember that it is 13 years since Facebook burst into being, and the first of many new social connections via our smart phones.

Plus some trivia and mirth and much more ….
