Valentine’s Day, Pets, White Night, Authors, Geniuses, Comedians
This week we talk about Valentine’s Day, remembering that Pets Are Wonderful (and loving) Support – PAWS, and the forthcoming White Night when city buildings are colourfully floodlit overnight.
Having anniversaries around this time are gay Australian author, Robert Dessaix who was an activist in the gay cause, and US author & journalist Randy Shultz who documented the rise of the AIDS epidemic in San Fransciso in the early 1980s in his position with the SF Chronical newspaper.
We also compare the lives and works of Galileo – much pilloried for his scientific discoveries which challenged the ideas of the Church at that time; and we remember his contemporary painter, sculptor, poet engineer & architect Michelangelo – who was sponsored by the Church to decorate major churches in Italy.
We celebrate the life and works of Australian gay entertainer Graham Kennedy; character performer Barry Humphries – known mainly for his role as Dame Edna Everidge; and gay character actor Patricia Routledge – known for her TV role as Mrs Bucket, and for her roles in musical theatre.
Plus a Simpsons’ reference, trivia, mirth and more ….
