Paul Gardner was joined in studio recently by guitarist James Wiley, leader of the band the Yugoslav Attack.
James started his musical career in Thrash Music – a distance from jazz. He discusses the challenges he faced getting into Melbourne’s competitive jazz scene, putting his band together, and how he handles composing music when he doesn’t notate it.
James also explains the connection between the name of his band ‘The Yugoslav Attack’ and their first album ‘Fianchetto’ – and the game of Chess.
The album Fianchetto is available on bandcamp.
James Wiley was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday December 1, 2019.
