Paul Gardner and Corey were joined in the Bent Notes studio by the brilliant Sunny Kim, a Korean jazz performer who has worked as a jazz singer and vocalist in Korea, New York and Australia.
Sunny’s recent collaboration with Daniel Wilfred, Peter Knight and the Australian Arts Orchestra – Hand to Earth – explores nature, different cultures, and using the voice as an instrument.
We learn about her first meeting with Daniel where they sung together about the stars; and her previous collaboration with Peter – Bright Splinters – in Korea; how the three of them incorporate their cultures into their music, and how music forms relationships.
Paul also hears about Sunny’s own album – Painter’s Eye – and the role of poetry in reconnecting with her homeland after being away for so many years.
Hand to Earth was held on the February 23, 2020 at the Arts Centre Melbourne as part of the Meeting Points Series – a creative collaboration between the Australian Art Orchestra and Arts Centre Melbourne..
Sunny Kim was a guest of Bent Notes on Sunday February 9, 2020
