Sculptor and musician Adam Simmons visited the Bent Notes studio (where he met Rex!) at JOY 94.9 to chat with David Moyle about the premiere of his fifth work in his “Usefulness of Art” series.
The Usefulness of Art series of works has been inspired by a 1911 statement by Sculptor Auguste Rodin when he said that he calls useful all that gives us happiness, in answer to the question of whether Art is useful or just utilitarian.
Adam has since used these thoughts to inform his musical creativity and expressions in music and sculpture, in part as a means of creating community.
Working with MD, Lecturer, author, ethnomusicologist and player of the Sheng (Chinese Mouth Organ), Wang Zheng-Ting, Adam has created the fifth work in the series that reflects experiences of the city of Tianjin and that city’s history of Wei kites.
Adam is launching this new work at forty-five downstairs from Thursday July 26, 2018.
