Monash University has re-launched their Jazz Club at their Clayton campus with a brand new name – The Count’s – a joint reference to both their Executive Director of the Monash Academy of Performing Arts – Paul Grabowksy (known as “Count Paul Grabowsky” in the early 90’s when musical director for the Steve Vizard show); and to Count Basie – jazz pianist, band leader, composer and leader of his band for almost 50 years – a band that set the standards for new and exciting Big Band sounds and Big Band Swing.
Paul talked about some of the challenges of getting a Jazz club up and running post-COVID, and the joys of seeing such a great group of performers programmed across the first few months.
Performers in residence on Wednesday Nights include the Jake Mason Trio (May), Audrey Powne (June), and the Paul Grabowsky Trio (Torrio!) in July; with contemporary DJ artists featured across Friday nights including Paul Gorrie, Simon Winkler, and MZ Rizk. More details from What’s On
