David Moyle welcomed Trumpeter Paul Williamson back to Bent Notes to chat about an aspect of his PhD thesis concerning “Flow” in Jazz Improvisation, Groove in Jazz, and his North Side HomeGrown project.
In simple terms Flow is the process by which a musician can be freed in their improvisation by not overthinking the improvisatory process. Hear Paul talk in more detail about Flow – and Groove!
Paul’s North Side HomeGrown is a Quintet project that will be presenting Jazz with swing, groove and Latin tinges, with a distinctly Melbourne flair, at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on Friday June 10, 2022. Paul will be joined onstage by Sam Keevers (piano), Carl Mackey (saxophones), Miles Henry (drums) and Helen Svoboda (bass).
