Why do bi+ people experience higher rates of poor mental health?

If any of the topics in this episode bring up difficult or intense feelings for you, we encourage you to reach out for support from a trusted friend, community, or mental health professional. You can find a list of organisations you can turn to for support on this page: joy.org.au/support

Bi+ people have consistently reported higher rates of mental health challenges compared to both straight and gay/lesbian people, but what are the reasons behind that?

In this episode, the Big Bi+ Questions team was joined by relationship counsellor and mental health social worker Anthony Lekkas to unpack this important topic.

During the episode, Anthony mentioned a website listing therapists and health practitioners in Victoria, Australia, who have expertise, training, and/or lived experience in various marginalised social groups. You can find the website here: www.vicinclusivepractitioners.com

If you want to find out more about the research into bi+ mental health, here are some links to studies:
Findings from the Australian ‘Who I Am’ study
Findings from a study undertaken in Hong Kong
