Writer/Director Monique Mulcahy and Producer Chloe Stannard are in the studio to talk about their upcoming short film Man in the Moon, a science-fiction drama about independence, the relationship between a single mother and her son, and alien invasions. feminist writers festBROAD News recaps women’s fantastic work at the Rio Olympics. The Pierre de Coubertin medal was awarded to runners Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D’Agostino for outstanding sportsmanship; Caster Semenya ran to victory in spite of invasive and misogynistic scrutiny; Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky made some spectacular achievements in gymnastics and swimming; and new uniforms were debuted by the Egyptian women’s beach volleyball team, allowing more women to compete without compromising their beliefs and personal comfort.

Back in Australia, the Zine and Indie Comix Symposium has awarded the Golden Stapler Award to Woolf Pack for best collaborative zine; Australian men are still being paid on average more than 20% than women; and the United Nations Association of Australia will be holding a national forum on the economic empowerment of women and girls, from the 5th to the 6th of September which you can register for here.
