Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week on the show, Elliot and Luke talk about how you define difficulty in video games. There are plenty of different genres, with some being easy to pick up and play while others are designed to be intentionally tough. Your enjoyment of each game you play is sometimes going to be dependent on how hard it is to complete. Do you like a challenge or prefer something linear and easy to complete?

Also, who are we – as reviewers – to define whether a game is “too hard” or “too easy”? It depends heavily on the audience and the target demographic, but can this skew the way that games are critically and commercially perceived? Listen in to our thoughts on the subject – do you like a challenge or not?
