Welcome to Game On! JOY 94.9’s Home of Sport every Tuesday from 7-8pm where you’ll hear where you can get your game on! This show is all about you and how you can get your game on by showcasing where sport is safe, inclusive, welcoming and fun for the Rainbow community!

Are you looking to start getting in shape for summer? You’ve got twelve weeks! What better way to start than to join the Brisbane Frontrunners, an LGBTIQ+ walking and running  group for a walk, jog or run around the beautiful Brisbane River. Ray Moore Co-Ordinator with the Brisbane Frontrunners, tells us how the club got its name, his journey in sport from a walker to a runner and what the club can offer you from a dedicated running coach to marching in the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade! (Interview starts 2:45)

Nicole Battle, Director Community Development, at Alice Springs Town Council shares with us a public promise to make sure sport is for everyone. Alice Springs is a sporting town with a rich history of LGBTIQA+ sport and is committed to making sure that continues. Have a read of the statement on the Council’s website Everybody belongs in sport and consider a trip to the Red Centre. The Alice Springs Masters Games 2024 – the longest-running Masters Games in Australia – returns to the Red Centre from 12-19 October, 2024. This will be the 18th edition! Or you might like to also attend the fabAlice Festival – a unique showcase of Drag, Family, Comedy and Cabaret events, celebrating the inclusivity and diversity of the Red Centre 7-10 March 2024! (Interview starts 12:20)

Norman Mitchell, Secretary – Team Sydney Sports tells us all about the history of Team Sydney Sports, Sydney’s LGBTIQA+ sports clubs and associations and the role in supporting inclusive sporting clubs. Did you know that there are over forty inclusive sporting clubs and growing! Norman has been volunteering for over a decade and is keen to help anyone looking to grow their sport in Sydney and is also a delegate for the Gay Games, the largest sporting and cultural event in the world for the LGBTQ+ community and allies.  Check out the Team Sydney Sports facebook page for oodles of activities to take part in! (Interview starts 23:40)

The Purchas Cup, the Australasian regional gay rugby competition was held over the weekend in Perth’s Tompkins Park and saw fierce competition between the New Zealand Falcons, Adelaide University Sharks, Perth Rams, Brisbane Hustlers and Melbourne Chargers before the Sydney Convicts gallantly won the Purchas Cup silverware for 2023! There was a cup tier and a shield tier. The New Zealand Falcons took home the shield tier! Joel McDonald, Captain, NZ Falcons joined Game On! what that experience was like, his inspiring journey in sport and the impact Campbell Johnstone is having on the rugby community in New Zealand as the the first All Black to come out as gay in January 2023. (Interview starts at 31:26)

In Who is getting their game on? this week, Isaac Humphries shares why he is an Ambassador for R U OK  Day? Isaac came out as the only openly gay player on an active first division basketball roster globally last year in November while playing with Melbourne United. Now in pre-season for Adelaide 36ers, Isaac says “The whole goal of my coming out was to be a role model and to be a voice for people that maybe didn’t have a voice”.  R U OK Day? is on Thursday 14 September.

A big thank you to all of our guests for their support of an inclusive and supportive sporting culture and mindset so that everyone can enjoy getting their game on!
