Welcome to Game On! JOY 94.9’s Home of Sport every Wednesday from 8-9pm where you’ll hear where you can get your game on! This show is all about you and how you can get your game on by showcasing where sport is safe, inclusive, welcoming and fun for the Rainbow community! And we cover topics designed to make sure you are kicking goals in life!
We are joined by elite rower Al Viney to the JOY 94.9 studio. Al is a two -time Australian Paralympic rower being a member of the PR3 Mixed Cox Four at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and more recently at the 2024 Paris Paralympics competing in the PR3 Mixed Cox Four Para Rowing. Al s also an Ambassador with Proud2Play an LGBTIQA+ organisation which advocates for inclusion in sport. Al shares her journey as a para-athlete and how she came to feel she belongs in both sport and as her authentic self. (Starts 1min27secs)
We are joined by Jen Peden, who is on the Committee of Pride Football Australia and President of The Flying Bats – an LGBTIQA+ community football club for women and non-binary people located in Sydney’s Inner West to tell us about a fantastic annual national event running Friday October 11 – 13th in Sydney, and why you should start kicking a soccer ball around! Get involved in the Pride Football Australia Tournament now in its fourteenth year! (Starts 19mins23secs)
We are heading into the summer months. Daylight saving is here at long last! People will be heading to the beach – even in Melbourne! And being an island, we associate Australia with sand and surf being our famed beach culture. But does the Rainbow community feel safe at the beach? Enter Lifesavers with Pride and guest Jake Little, President of Lifesavers with Pride to encourage you to become a lifesaver, sign up for the Proud Beaches Mentorship program, and apply for a Proud Beaches Scholarships, with applications now open for 2024/25! (Starts 32mins49secs)
Why is the AFLW Pride Round so important? Take a listen to Who is getting their game on for a wonderful answer to that important question from Sam Wright, Collingwood AFLW Coach as the round runs from Tuesday 8th October through to Sunday 12th October for the fifth year! (Starts 46mins46secs)
A big thank you to all of our guests for their support of an inclusive and supportive sporting culture and mindset, and encouraging everyone in the Rainbow community to get their game on!
And thank you for being a part of Team Game On!
