Welcome to Game On JOY 94.9’s Home of Sport every Wednesday from 6-7pm where you’ll hear where you can get your game on! This show is all about showcasing where sport is safe, inclusive, welcoming and fun for the Rainbow community!
We chat with Peter Van Miltenburg (OLY) in the JOY Sport Studio! Peter is the Sprint and Conditioning Coach for Melbourne’s gay and inclusive rugby club the Melbourne Chargers. He shares his journey from Geelong to the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 where he raced against one of the world’s greatest athletes of all time Carl Lewis . Peter also shares insights into being a gay male in athletics at that time. (Starts 2:22)
Peter also gives us a mid-week pep talk with his Four Point Plan for success in sport and life. Live boldly. Dream big. Create memories. Accept change. (Starts 14:05)
There is a new sport in town which has been embraced by the LGBTIQA+ community! It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s colourful and it’s camp! It’s Emerald City Kickball! (Starts 22:32)
Freddie Lenclud, Local Events Lead and Christopher Pangalos, Director of Marketing & Communications, Emerald City Kickball Melbourne share why this sport could be just the ticket for you to add fun to your winter nights with heaps of incredible social events planned!
Congratulations Freddie on being named a Finalist in this year’s Victorian Sport Awards in the Outstanding Contribution to Sport category! Now in their 11th year the awards recognise the outstanding achievements and excellence with the LGBTQIA+ in Victoria.
And as we close the show for the week we hear from Owen Brigstock-Barron, Director of Global Sports Health Initiatives, Movember. Movember is on a mission to help men, and their communities, live healthier, longer lives and has partnered with Pride Cup to change men’s health in sport and reduce homophobic behaviour in sport by engaging young men in meaningful conversations about inclusion, respect and belonging. Owen tells us about an exciting new initiative! (Starts 39:00)
A big thank you to our wonderful guests for their support of an inclusive and supportive sporting culture and mindset, and encouraging everyone in the Rainbow community to get their game on!
And thank you for being a part of Team Game On!
