Welcome to Game On! JOY 94.9’s Home of Sport every Wednesday from 8-9pm where you’ll hear where you can get your game on! This show is all about you and how you can get your game on by showcasing where sport is safe, inclusive, welcoming and fun for the Rainbow community!
Darryl Davenport – Principal Ballroom Fit joins Game On! to talk Paralympics and Para DanceSport. Darryl explains how the sport works from the three styles of dance, to the equipment, pairing and events. The newly introduced DanceSport Learning Management System offers online training for DanceSport coaches, partners, volunteers, and judges to increase awareness of coaching people with disabilities funded through an Australian Institute of Sport Play Well Participation Grant. In the new year, workshops and come-and-try days will be held in the capital cities of Australia as a nationwide promotional effort to increase the participation of people with a disability in the sport. Reach out to Darryl for more information of how you can get involved in this elegant, graceful and stylish sport. (2:00)
We welcomed Martin Stark, Founder and CEO World Gay Boxing Championships, to the show. Martin was nominated for LGBTQ Role Model of The Year at the 2024 Pride in Sport Australia Awards due to his relentless pursuit to disrupt homophobia and transphobia in the sport of boxing through the World Gay Boxing Championships and this nomination was in recognition of the difference he is making in the boxing community. Hear insights into challenging transphobia and homophobia in boxing and UFC as well as how to find the courage to speak up. (16:00)
And ever wanted to run a marathon? Toying with the idea? You have come to the right place! Stuart Brooks, Run Coach with the Melbourne Frontrunners, Melbourne’s inclusive running and walking club for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, walks us through how you can conquer 42.5km! And head to coffee with friends after you cross the finish line! (29:50)
A big thank you to all of our guests for their support of an inclusive and supportive sporting culture and mindset, and encouraging everyone in the Rainbow community to get their game on!
