We’re getting our game on talking how to be a sporting medical crisis hero, managing obesity and giving badminton a bash

Welcome to Game On! JOY 94.9’s Home of Sport every Wednesday from 8-9pm where you’ll hear where you can get your game on! This show is all about you and how you can get your game on by showcasing where sport is safe, inclusive, welcoming and fun for the Rainbow community! And we cover topics designed to make sure you are kicking goals in life!

We are joined by Parker Saint Clair, First Aid Trainer with Australia Wide First Aid to find out how you can be the go-to person in a sporting medical crisis. 70 % of Australians lack confidence in handling asthma attacks, chocking, and allergic reactions, only a quarter of Victorians can provide CPR after a drowning event, and more than one in 20 Aussies (6%) admit they didn’t act in an emergency for fear of making the situation worse. Parker talks us through how to react with some LGBTIQA+ sporting role plays and a call to action! Take the quiz and find our what type of first-aid helper you are. Australia Wide First Aid Quiz (5:47)

We explore weight, weight loss treatments and how to approach obesity speaking with Adjunct Professor John Dixon, Swinburne University and Melbourne University,  one of the leading clinical researchers into obesity. John has produced over 300 original research and review publications in the obesity and weight gain area of health with the finding that obesity is a disease. John debunks common myths about obesity, exercise, and provides some great insights on weight management and the role the gut plays. (19:12)

And our Sport of the Week is badminton! Clint Proctor, the CEO of Badminton Victoria chats with us sharing why badminton could be the perfect sport for you! Australia has fielded a team at every Olympic competition since the sport’s introduction in Barcelona in 1992 and has taken part in Para-badminton debuting at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. With over 250,000 people participating in Australia and 300 badminton clubs and Associations, you won’t be short of company! Inclusion is key and there are some terrific LGBTIQA+ clubs you can join today. Check out the Proud2Play Activity Directory for clubs across Australia. (31:18)

And this week who is featuring in our segment Who is getting their game?  Olympian Campbell Harrison! Campbell is an Olympian in the Men’s boulder and lead competition and competed in the Paris Olympics this year.  As well as being an outstanding athlete we celebrate Campbell as a role model for showing his true self in a sporting environment – in Campbell’s case – at the biggest sporting event on the world stage! (44:37)

A big thank you to all of our guests for their support of an inclusive and supportive sporting culture and mindset, and encouraging everyone in the Rainbow community to get their game on!

And thank you for being a part of Team Game On!
