The Australian Corporate Closet
Presenter: Ian Smith, St John of God Health Care
Self-disclosure, the act of revealing personal information about oneself often involves unexpected information. One of these is revealing to co-workers that one is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex or questioning. Largely unexamined, especially in the Australian workplace, is the attempt to understand the decision to reveal ones sexual orientation and the sexual identity management strategies involved in this process. The presentation reviews the extant Australian literature on sexual orientation discrimination within the Australian workplace.
