Today is Intersex Awareness Day, a day to share knowledge and stories from people who have intersex variations and to spotlight the human rights issues faced by the intersex community.

We had a great chat yesterday with Blume about their experience and advocacy, and this morning we are going to share the experiences of well-known Intersex advocate Paul Byrne-Moroney, who we’ve spoken to before here on JOY Breakfast.
Paul was diagnosed with Klinefelter Syndrome at the age of 28 and is a national advocate for people with X and Y sex chromosome variations and he recently had a chat with JOYS Dave Samuel about his journey to finding the Intersex community and what his hopes are for the future.

A question so many people struggle with asking is how do you know if you’re intersex…
Well we’ve hunted down some information from the InterACT who are an organisation that advocates for the legal rights of children born with intersex traits.
In one informative video they explain a simplified answer to the question, how do you know if you’re intersex?

There’s no one easy way to know, and people usually get diagnosed with a particular variation that falls under the intersex umbrella, rather than being diagnosed as intersex
Bodies have so many variations and just because yours may fall under what sits under the intersex umbrella doesn’t mean you need to identify any particular way
