Why I’m doing Movember this year

On November 19, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being.

The theme for 2023 is “ZERO MALE SUICIDE”. Together we can stop male suicide.

It’s also November, which means Movember is happening and there’s plenty of fancy moustaches coming into their own to raise awareness of mens health.

That’s why Rach & Dean put the call out to members of the community who are participating in Movember to share why it’s a cause that matters to them.

Men’s health is in crisis.

Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.

A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.

Thank you all for sharing your time with us on the JOY airwaves.
