Looking back on 40 years of Thorne Harbour Health

Rach and Dean took a step back in time on JOY Breakfast, as they dove into into the Dean Dean time Machine and went back 40 years to to the day to the formation of Thorne Harbour Health, which became a central part of the Victorian community response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

On the 12th of June 1983, a meeting was held at the Laird ‘O Cockpen Hotel in Collingwood to form an action group. The motion was passed, and the Victorian AIDS Action Committee (now known as Thorn Harbour Health) was established as the sole representative of the Victorian gay community in all matters relating to AIDS, giving the gay community a united voice on AIDS issues.

Founding president of the now Thorne Harbour Health, Phil Carswell, and current President Janet Jukes came onto the show as we deep dived into the history of Victoria’s Community lead LGBTIQA+ organisation.
