The CrowdStrike global technology outage has been estimated by insurers to cost US Fortune 500 companies $5.4bn. The outage, which left passengers stranded, shoppers unable to pay for groceries and impacted banks, hospitals, telecommunications and even broadcasters, was caused by a faulty update to their software.
