Adjunct Professor Steve Turton: Cyclone Alfred

Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales are facing something they haven’t seen in 50 years – a tropical cyclone making landfall. Cyclone Alfred was expected to fizzle out. But in a surprising turn, it’s headed straight for the coast, expected to hit as a Category 2 storm. That means damaging winds, power outages, coastal erosion, and the potential for major flooding.

So, what does this mean for people in the region? How unpredictable are Coral Sea cyclones like Alfred? And what should you be doing now to prepare?

Guest: Steve Turton, Adjunct Professor of Environmental Geography at CQUniversity Australia

Presenter: Warren Andrew
