Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have long been championed as key principles for creating fairer, more inclusive workplaces. But in recent months, they have come under fire, with political leaders here and abroad questioning their value.

With ongoing debates about workplace equity, it is a good time to ask: Why do DEI initiatives matter? What progress have we made in Australia, and what risks do we face if these programs are dismantled?
