Sean Dooley: Birdwatching Update

Grim but powerful! That is how the protest outside the Victorian Premier’s Office on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, was described. Wildlife rescuers laid out the bodies of ducks illegally shot during the current hunting season, hoping to make an unmissable point.

But it is not all grim news in the bird world. As autumn rolls in, there has also been a burst of feathered activity across Melbourne – from noisy currawongs and corellas to spectacular flocks of swifts surfing the storm fronts.
