Ryan’s Starting Again

ryandolanIreland’s entrant from the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö is releasing a new single, after coming out on Irish radio.

Ryan Dolan, whose Celtic banger, Only Love Survives, ended up in last place in the Grand Final, spoke to RTE Radio 1‘s Derek Mooney about life after Eurovision and the motivation for the video for his new single.

The 28 year old singer shared some insights into his life in high school, saying:

In school I was definitely confused about who I was, and it was really hard for me growing up because of that.  It was just hard to deal with because I sort of knew that I was gay … but I couldn’t get the courage to talk to someone about it.

He was also hesitant about telling his father because he wasn’t sure how he would react.

My father was the last person to find out because I was sort of afraid of what he would think. I think he actually took it the better than anyone I told. I actually couldn’t ask for better parents, they’ve just been great to me my whole life… I suppose, my whole life I built it up in my head… The more I thought about it the harder it got.

The video for his new single Start Again is based on his experiences at school and those that he knows GLBTIQ teenagers still suffer and face in everyday life.

The single is released 7 March, but you can check out the video below:
