The magic number is 39
For months, Eurovision’s Executive Supervisor, Jon Ola Sand, has been teasing the world about just how many countries would be represented in next year’s Contest in Vienna.
Finally, the number was revealed: 39.
This is an increase of two on the number of entries in this year’s contest, and marks the return of Cyprus, the Czech Republic and Serbia to the Eurovision fold. Due to their current situation, Ukraine has pulled out of the Contest and Turkey‘s return is still just out of reach.

- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France (Big 5)
- FYR Macedonia
- Georgia
- Germany (Big 5)
- Greece
- Hungary
- Iceland
- Ireland
- Israel
- Italy (Big 5)
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Malta
- Moldova
- Montenegro
- The Netherlands
- Norway
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Russia
- San Marino
- Serbia
- Slovenia
- Spain (Big 5)
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom (Big 5)
Sixteen countries will be competing in Semi Final 1 (19 May) and seventeen will be in Semi Final 2 (21 May).
The Big Five and Austria will go straight to the Grand Final on 23 May, along with the top 10 countries from each Semi.
A draw to allot countries to Semi Finals will take place on Australia Day, 26 January.
