Here’s what we played this week:
Here’s a list of all the tunes played on this weeks show:
- Ritual – ILUKA
Renowned for her signature retro pop sounds and a voice that at once commands attention with fierce ballads and oozes softness with restrained whispers, ILUKA stands strong as one of Australia’s home-grown revolutionaries. Wearing her heart on her sleeve and owning collective defiance like a badge of honour is her forte. Following her true north toward feminism and individualism, the forthcoming four track EP finds Iluka at her most authentic; weaponising her retro-inspired doo-wop vocal styling, lifting brass and bodacious ringing guitar hooks throughout Ritual. - Need a Little Time – COURTNEY BARNETT
Courtney Barnett has shared ‘Need A Little Time’, another new track from her upcoming album ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’. - Blaccout – A.B. ORIGINAL
BLACCOUT’ is designed as a bookend to the incredible success of their first album and a taster for what comes next. turns up the ante with air sirens, booming percussion and some trap influences, giving the track a bit of a Run The Jewels vibe along the way. There’s hint to potentially a new album coming out soon, so we’ll be keeping watch! - Faces – ATHENA JOY
Coffs Harbour-based singer songwriter. Her mature tone and effortless vocals are carried along perfectly through light handed, simply constructed electronic accompaniment. - Seek You – DANDE & THE LION
Dande And The Lion are a 5 piece, female fronted indie rock band from Sydney. The band have been captivating the music scene since 2017 with their tantalising vocal harmonies and rhythmic driven grooves, performing in venues across NSW. Seek You is a track to get you dancing! It’s Tarantino inspired vibes capture a mysterious upbeat energy - Musika – YOLANDA BE COOL & KWANZAA POSSE
In true Yolanda Be Cool style the boys have expertly transformed the 1993 tribal infused record ‘Musika’ by the African production duo Kwanzaa Posse into a modern-day, deep-house club beat. In turn creating an insanely snappy track with the grooviest hook to come out of 2018 so far. - Twentyseven – LANKS
LANKS is the moniker of Australian songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Will Cuming. In less than four years, LANKS has released three EP’s. ‘twentyseven’ narrates the insecurities that LANKS faces around standards of success. - Suburbia – PRESS CLUB
‘Suburbia’ was recorded live in one day during the “Late Teens” sessions at The Aviary Studios in Melbourne. As with all of their work it was completely self-produced by the band and engineered by the band’s guitarist Greg Rietwyk. - Dream State – HOLIDAY PARTY
Holiday Party is the brainchild of Luke McDonald and Mel Tickle and now a growing collective, with Scott Bromiley joining soon after. Born from collaborating on various projects in Brisbane, the band works conceptually on the premise of a twisted end to a house party. Something is not quite right at this party.Describing it as a “lush, junkyard pop anthem”, HOLIDAY PARTY have given us a song that feels like something too utopian and too paradisal to be conjured in this world… ditch monotony and enter a hyper-colour wonderland. – Purple sneakers - Confidence – OCEAN ALLEY
Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, six-piece Ocean Alley have captivated audiences around the country with their infectious melody lines and memorable blend of psychedelic-surf-rock, to solidify their position as one of Australia’s most exciting rising bands.Oozing with cool and a pulsating bass line, ‘Confidence’ is the third single from Ocean Alley’s second LP Chiaroscuro. It pairs blissful, scuzzy riffs with intoxicating echoing vocals, to create the ultimate fusion of psychedelic reggae and laid-back surf rock. - U KNXW – GAMIREZ
Gamirez is an African-Australian rapper, singer, song-writer, producer from Perth Western Australia. Born in Uganda to South Sudanese parents, Gamirez formally know as Aliga Gama migrated to Perth Western Australia with his family in 2004. U KNXW is a song highlighting a complicated love story. Its about falling in love at first sight, connecting and then finding out the person doesn’t feel the same way about you. - All The Time – ISY ISY
ISY ISY combines the bold, the delicate, and the radiant. Her music is a vivacious explosion of sultry bass, effortless groove, and unapologetic self-love. All The Time is an unashamedly eccentric take on electronica. Following a story of love and life through its pitfalls and highs, the instrumentation shadows its path, shifting from distant and hazy synths to electrifyingly bold bass.
