Local Roots – Episode 15 – Interview with Thomas Keating

We love local independent music at Local Roots, and each week we try and bring you the best new releases and get bands live on air to tell you a little more about their new releases.

Sydney-based indie rock aficionado and prolific storyteller Thomas Keating is no newcomer to the local music scene. Having crafted intimate tales of home and country life since he first broke onto the scene back in 2012 with his band Thieves who later morphed into Good Counsel. At the end of 2016, Good Counsel called it a day, allowing Thomas Keating to return to his singer songwriter roots. His first solo endeavour and debut single ‘Begin Again’, was released on Friday 2 February.

Drawing inspiration from classic rock and roll luminaries Gareth Liddiard, Nick Cave, The Triffids, Paul Kelly and more, Thomas Keating bunkered down at the beginning of 2017 and wrote his forthcoming debut album slated for release in the second half of 2018.

A habitué of Australiana with a penchant for honest storytelling, Thomas Keating will hit the road this autumn with his full band, his wealth of songwriting experience and a backlog of new music to unpack when they launch ‘Begin Again’ in Newcastle, Sydney, and Melbourne during March.

We were joined live via phone with Thomas Keating and played his recent release Begin Again.
