Ms CeCe Rockefeller drops by for a chat

“Embodying the prim elegance and prac- ticed restraint of 1950’s social and sexual repression, CeCe drifts from room to room… a lofty, alcoholic Julie Andrews, rummaging through artefacts of her bygone glory days” – Jack Beeby, AussieTheatre

Recounting a first love that unfolds in the wake of her sister’s mysterious disappearance, Ms CeCe Rockefeller presents an oversaturated, tragically romantic melodrama in her sophomore theatrical outing.

Au Cause Célèbre discovers a young Cecilia with stars in her eyes, carried away on a run- away whirlwind love affair destined for disgrace, heartbreak and devastation.

Sheer scandal from a truly fantastical biography, Ms Rockefeller’s original text is wo- ven through an eclectic pop repertoire – including songs by Solange, ANOHNI and Carly Rae Jepsen – arranged for keys and cello by award-winning musical director Shanon D Whitelock, in collaboration with featured instrumentalist Claire Abougelis.

Taking the stage with her two-piece band at the Hare Hole in Fitzroy (winner of ‘Best Venue,’ Melbourne Fringe Festival 2016), this premiere season of Au Cause Célèbre will mark Ms CeCe Rockefeller’s Melbourne Fringe debut.

With a voice that has been described as “a glorious fusion of Kate Bush and James Blake” (AussieTheatre), Ms Rockefeller is a budding talent; furnishing a space for sincerity and sentimentality on the Melbourne drag scene.

Ms CeCe Rockefeller originated at The Butterfly Club, in Estate of Affairs, April 2016. Later in the year, she featured in the lineup for TAINT: Fistmas TAINT-Tacular, and the Mama Alto Christmas Special; in July 2017, she appeared at Ball of Wax.

Creator and producer Christopher Fieldus graduated from the VCA (Master of Dramaturgy) in 2015, and is currently a participant in the Midsumma Futures program.
