Kicking off our new music off this week is a double-up out of the Netherlands. Eva Simons had a huge hit a few years back collaborating with American producer (and her current beau) Afrojack on Take Over Control. This time Eva teams up with compatriot R3HAB and the result is Unstoppable.
British crooner Sam Smith had a couple of hits collaborating with Disclosure and Naughty Boy. Stay with Me is the second single from his debut album and his second UK #1. Already charting in the top 10 here in Australia, the added bonus is we now get a duet version of this beautiful ballad with US R&B star Mary J. Blige. Sam this week confirmed in an interview with The Fader that he is indeed same-sex attracted and very much a part of our community. Welcome, Sam.
The latest from Tiesto contained a slightly dubious message with the line “I like us better when we’re wasted”. The new edit instead uses “I like us better when we’re naked”, creating a far less contentious hook for this otherwise catchy little tune.
With regard to Aussie music, this week we’re putting our faith into a reduced-lineup, reinvented, 2012 X Factor creation The Collective. The boys have produced a mid-tempo ballad that hopefully will perform better than their previous single.
