Kicking off our new music this week is a release that is a little bit of a surprise to everyone. It’s more than 11 years since Melbourne-based duo Slinkee Minx dominated the Aussie charts with their cover of Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Summer Rain’. Relaunching themselves with the promise of an all-new 8-track EP in early 2016, the first taste, ‘Lift Me Up’, is produced by James Ash (Rogue Traders) and is JOY sweet spot – pop-dance perfect.
Talking of locally produced dance-pop, we’ve also got the very young, very fresh new 4-piece girl group Mischief in the mix for the first time on JOY, with their third single, ‘Last Night in Vegas’.
Johnny Rollins was a finalist on The Voice Australia in 2014 and a member of Team Kylie. He has come a long way in the past year, and ‘High’ is a well-polished gem.
Swedish pop star Tove Lo is back with a third single, ‘Moments’, from her debut album – more than a year after the album was released. She’ll be hoping ‘Moments’ makes the top 5, like her debut release, ‘Stay High’, rather than the 93 achieved by her second single, ‘Talking Body’.
A British ex-boy-band member going solo and scoring a top 10 hit in Australia is almost unprecedented. Aston Merrygold’s ‘Get Stupid’ was an expectedly popular debut and he’ll be hoping the equally infectious ‘Show Me’ does just as well.
Olly Murs is releasing a special edition of his current album, Never Been Better, that will feature four new tracks. ‘Kiss Me’ is the first of those bonus tracks to appear, and is his new single.
