November is traditionally the “do we wait or do we go?” month for single releases prior to the Christmas shutdown. At this early point, many record companies and artists pressed go! So with what we think might be a record week for number of music additions, let’s get to it.
Nineties remakes are in right now, and Melbourne producer M1 is hot at the top end of the ARIA club charts with his remake of Mariah Carey’s 1991 staple, ‘Emotion’.
Australian production duo PNAU’s Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes have recruited Nick’s brother, Sam Littlemore, to bolster the team for their first new work in four years. ‘Chameleon’ is quirky and fun synthpop.
Australian X Factor successes Samantha Jade (2012 winner) and Cyrus (2015 runner-up) teaming up for ‘Hurt Anymore’ should be the recipe for a mega hit.
Gold Coaster indie band Sheppard need to escape the shadow of their massive worldwide hit ‘Geronimo’ from 2014. In the first of new material for a new album, ‘We Belong’ may just do that for them. We’re on board.
Sydney trio Mischief have been bubbling away creating new music for most of 2016. Their latest single, ‘Next to You’, is contemporary, confident and easy-to-enjoy pop-R&B. Go girls.
Sydney-based producer Tanner Derrby (aka DJ Brendan Terry) is back on our airwaves with a super-high-energy dance-vocal and a radio edit just for us. ‘In Your Hands’, is a ready-made JOY anthem.
Melbourne-based duo Client Liaison released their debut album, Diplomatic Immunity, last week, and the lead single, ‘Wild Life’, is another excellent funk-pop offering from the best dressed-boys of 1991.
NZ-born, Aussie-based singer Emily Williams – 2005 Australian Idol runner-up and former Young Diva – returns with the strongest single we’ve heard from her in some time. We think you’re going to love ‘Get Your Life’.
Melbourne-based DJ-producer Nick Jay is no stranger to our playlists, with some big songs and some big collaborations (e.g. ‘Rock This Party Like It’s Mid Summer’ with Inaya Day) over the years. He’s got a new production name, MOPO, and a brand new remake of the 1994 Australian #9 hit, ‘Things Can Only Get Better’, originally by Northern Ireland band D:Ream. With a swag of remixes for every occasion, we’ve chosen Nick’s own MOPO version for your listening delight.
American singer-songwriter Joe Jonas’s band DNCE go from strength to strength, and their third single, Body Moves, is an absolute banger!
Norwegian singer-songwriter Astrid S recently supported our own Troye Sivan across Europe, and her single, ‘Hurts So Good’, is certified platinum in Sweden. We’re expecting big things for Astrid.
Canadian musician Charlie Puth scores his first addition to JOY this week after moving decidedly uptempo from his previous singles. ‘Dangerously’ is surprisingly good fun pop.
Dutch producer Hardwell is always on our radar and teaming up with American urban star Jay Sean sealed the deal for his latest single, ‘Thinking About You’.
British pop veteran Robbie Williams has failed to catch the record-buying public’s imagination so far with ‘Party Like A Russian’ – the adventurous first single from his new album Heavy Entertainment Show – not charting. ‘Love My Life’ is more familiar Robbie territory and may help push him back into the limelight. We certainly hope so.
American Grammy-winning singer-songwriter John Legend is back on our playlist, with the help of a very strong remix for his latest single, ‘Love Me Now’, from DJ-producer Dave Audé.
Former One Directioner Niall Horan debuted big in the charts with his first solo single, ‘This Town’. We’ve held out on this one, but are definitely enjoying the Tiesto remix, which brings the song to life for our mix.
One of the highest-selling artists of all time, UK singer-songwriter Adele, returns with the fourth single from her third studio album. We’re happy to confirm that ‘Water Under the Bridge’ is not a ballad.
American production duo Tritonal and New York-based producer Jenaux recruited out-and-proud fave Adam Lambert for their track ‘Broken’ a few months back. It’s been going gangbusters in the clubs of Europe and the USA over the northern summer and we now have an absolute swag of remixes to choose from for your radio listening pleasure. We’ve selected the Cash Cash mix, which we think you’ll enjoy.
Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
