Melbourne’s struck with tennis fever, the weather is getting warmer and Midsumma is in full swing. We’re near the end of January already, but the end of a run of amazing new music is nowhere to be seen.
You may have heard that a local girl called Kylie Minogue has released a new song. ‘Dancing’ comes as the lead single from Kylie’s 14th album, Golden, due 6 April. Kylie’s change to a country twang has had mixed reviews, but as we put it when it was released:

American singer-songwriter Hayley Kiyoko is no stranger to JOY’s music mix, but her releases of late haven’t been reaching Australian radio’s shores. We’ve put it right by adding her latest single, ‘Curious’, the third from her forthcoming album, Expectations. The video for the single speaks volumes about how this queer singer understands her sexuality, and it’s certainly one that we think you’ll be loving.
We’re getting in early with the new one from Demi Lovato. ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ is officially the second single from her album of the same name, and has been making the top 50 of charts throughout Europe and the Americas. Australians will get their chance to blast it on their radios soon, but we couldn’t help delivering Dave Audé‘s take to get you dancing.
Cast your mind back to 1998, when Buses and Trains got Aussie duo Bachelor Girl a #4 position on the ARIA chart. Tania Doko and James Roche split in 2003 and reformed for a brief moment in 2011. Since then, Tania has been making music in Stockholm and has appeared on a number of European songs. She’s now featured on ‘Dancing in the Rain’, thanks to (very bulky) UK DJ Damon Hess and British duo Deep Matter. Listeners to Gaydio would be familiar with Damon’s announcing and remixing skills in his weekly Saturday morning program (UK time), and it shows in this gem. You’ll certainly be dancing to this one, rain, hail or shine.
Ina Wroldsen is a Norwegian singer-songwriter who might not necessarily be familiar to you at first glance. However, once you know that she co-wrote How Deep is Your Love, Rockabye, Symphony, Alarm, Hold My Hand and My Heart Takes Over, among many others, and was featured on Jax Jones’ Breathe and Martin Solveig’s Places, you’ll consider her a close musical friend. Her newest, ‘Strongest’, reached #2 on the Norwegian chart, and with an Alan Walker remix, we think it will do great things here too.
Marc Kinchen has been around the house music scene for a very long time. Known simply as MK, this Detroit-born DJ and producer was responsible for one of the biggest dance tracks of the 90s with his remix of Push the Feeling On. ’17’ is his latest, which was originally written by Carla Monroe in 2014. Marc’s shown his appreciation by using Carla’s vocals on the track. What a good guy.
Set your alarm and join Amy on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
